my daughter has dropped laptop

hello, my daughter has dropped her sony vaio laptop. we switch it on and the lights all work and the screen comes on, however we get an error message of an unexpected I/O error has occurred and a status of oxc0000e9. is it now doomed?

Doomed no, but damaged yes. My guess is that the hard drive has been damaged. If you press the F8 key repeatedly as the computer is starting (before you get the error message) do you get a menu of options?
