Error message on Apple imac G5 on boot up....Help!!

Hi, I bought an Apple iMac G5 2nd hand from a guy on e-bay. He advised when I bought it that it took a couple of attempts to boot up, he assured me he had spoken to Apple about it and they said it was a common problem and not to worry about it. When I got it home it was working fine but on OSx 10.3, I got the disc to install OSx 10.4.3 and this seemed to work fine also (I also installed 10.4.3 from the same disc onto my old Power PC G4 and it is running with no problems) I upgraded via the Apple site to version 10.4.11 as my husband has an iphone and we needed to be running at this to have an upto date version of itunes for him to use with the phone. I upgraded itunes to the compatible version and after doing this it wiped my itunes library saying it couldn't read it! I then rebooted and as soon as the screen came back on I got the apple symbol....then a black screen which keeps flickering and says:
dyld: Library not loaded:/usr/lib/libncurses.5.4.dylib
Referenced from: /bin/sh Reason: no suitable image found.
Did find:usr/lib/libncurses.5.4.dylib:unknown file type, first eight bytes: 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 (this line is copied 3 times on the screen)

I have no idea what this means but it will not move past this message and will not start up at all!! I have tried starting up with my installation disc in the dvd player but it doesn't make any difference!!
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this or what needs to be done?? Thanks

Try booting from the OSx disk. Put the disk in the machine, and press "C" whilst it is starting. That should boot from the CD and let you repair the missing file. It looks like that is usr/lib/libncurses.5.4.dylib, you may need to re-download it or copy it from the CD.
