a laptop keyboard normally does simply detect as a PS2 keyboard
In your case, what is exactly wrong? which keys are not working correctly? what is the recent history of the machine - has windows been reloaded on it?
There may be specific drivers for your laptop - what model is it, and which version of windows do you have installed?

Give us answers to that, and maybe we can help you

One possibility is that your country code is set incorrectly. The default is usually a US keyboard layout rather than the UK one. If you find that the @ sign is on Shift + 2, and the " is on the same key as ' that is probably your problem. Go into Control Panel, Regional Settings and change your keyboard layout to UK.

All solved - thanks very much for the replies - I have managed to find and re-installed the keyboard drivers last night and all seems well again.
