I presume your daughter was trying to upgrade a computer running an old version of Windows (e.g. 98 or ME). This is fraught with danger and she should have checked first that the computer was capable of sustaining the upgrade. You could seek help from a computer professional but get an estimate and think first if your money might not be better spent on a brand new computer.

I'm still not completely clear what your daughter was trying to do. It sounds as if she was trying to load Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) on a computer that was originally supplied with a different version of Windows. If she was trying to perform an upgrade it is likely that one of the hardware "drivers" does not work under Windows XP and needs to be replaced with the correct version (if a correct version exists). This is a job for an expert with a working computer that he/she can use to locate and download appropriate drivers.

Try SAFE Mode, How ?
As soon as you press the power botton to switch on the computer start tapping "F8" key from the top row. If you manage to get white writing on black screen , select Safe Mode, using you up and down keys and hit enter.
Next step will be to restore you computer back to earlier date, from Start>Programs>Acessories>Syestem Tools> Stystem Restore.

RE: Daughter tried loading windows xp service pack2 disc she bought from pc world now screen is black ev

Its clear what has happened here. The machine is preinstalled with WindowsXP. His daugther has mistakenly assumed the way to upgrade to XPsp2 is to purchase a retail disk. She has then attempted to install that over the existing OS and its failed. We don't know exactly whats wrong: it could be drivers, it could be a failed parallel installation, it could be the Pentium D microcode problem. Whatever, the operating system is corrupt and the best option is to recover the machine using the manufacturers recovery disk, THEN upgrade the machine online to SP2. The purchased copy of XP is irrelevant and of no use.
