RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

PCIQ is a UK organization and so it is difficult to comment on non-uk stores. yallstore.com has prices in dollars so is clearly not UK based. Lots of different countries use dollars so do you actually know where you are buying from and what you are paying? The English in the captions seems poor, which in some contexts is a danger sign. So I do not think I would buy from this store, but the decision is yours to make.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

If you dig hard enough on the sie you find this as the contact address, with no phone number given
Hangfeng Wu
7614 16th Ave Apt WYS
Brooklyn, NY 11214-1008
USA

Decision is yours to make. However I would have thought somewhere closer to China - where the screens are made - would be a better source than someone in the USA

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

Please note that laptop screen replacement is something that many PCIQ members carry out routinely, and have rapid access to spares.
For instance I work with an engineer in Lancashire who has several thousand screens in stock. Many of the other PCIQ agents are in a similar position.
If you need a laptop screen changing, ask PCIQ: its one of the things we do

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

Dear samygold g.

1) If you bought the computer two weeks ago you need to get it repaired under warranty, not fix it yourself.

2) Your problem has nothing to do with the previous contents of this thread, it would have been good 'netiquette' to post a new question.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

Hang on a minute there, Jon. sammygold g says "suddenly the screen divided into 2 parts" NOT "suddenly the screen divided into 2 parts as I hit it with a brick". There may be a problem persuading Asus or the shop that it has not been accidentally damaged but presumably an inherent internal stress could cause this sort of problem to manifest spontaneously. So I stand by my advice that unless sammygold g. knows that he/she is responsible for the damage then the first course of action should be to try to get it repaired under warranty.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

you can try arguing with the shop if you want, but to me that screen looks like something heavy has been dropped on the screen lid while closed warping the shell and causing multiple stress fractures

whether you get away with it or not depends on to what extent other damage is visible: e.g. whether the screen lid or hinges shows any damage or distortion. Personally I believe the shop will show him the door on this one. Time to check out the T&Cs on the household contents insurance
Might be an expensive repair as well: look like its an oddball screen size at 17.3"

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

Reading the OP, I assumed that the screen did not PHYSICALLY divide in half, but that the display on it did. That sounds more like an electrical malfunction. The LCD itself may not be damaged, but the circuits are.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

the video puts a different view on what in the stills looks like fractures - especially in the second picture
however you are not going to fix this yourself - either the screen is faulty or the graphics chip is faulty
you need to get this machine repaired / replaced under warranty. You are not going to fix this yourself

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

So get it repaired under warranty!!!

This isn't a problem for which there could be a software fix and I think the chances of being able to isolate and replace a faulty component within the display are vanishingly small. The only answer will be to replace the entire display. So you can pay for this yourself, get it done under warranty or maybe the shop will give you a refund. But, as Jon said, you may have difficulty convincing anyone else that this is not physical damage that you have done yourself.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

thats not an inverter problem
its a major hardware fault which probably needs either a new screen or a new graphics chip (IF its a separate chip) or else a new motherboard
You HAVE to send it back. You got it (presumably) by mail order, you can send it back the same way. Speak to them

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

It's a bad idea to purchase something far away from where you live. If you think it MIGHT be the inverter than you can pay a laptop repair specialist to replace the inverter. I doubt very much that this will work and you will just be throwing good money after bad. You have found one other person online with the same problem and they were sensible enough to RMA their computer. Your chances of finding anyone outside of the Asus organisation who knows how to fix this are very slim indeed.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

Pretty much the only replaceable parts on an LCD display are the back-light, the inverter and the lead. I doubt very much if its the inverter or the lead and it cannot be the back-light. So the only option will be to replace the entire display. I didn't think for one minute it was the graphics adaptor - you just wouldn't see that sort of split screen if it was.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

I don't think a faulty/loose cable would cause what you see. And even if it was the cable you have three options if you want it fixed:
1) You can open up the laptop yourself to inspect the cable but that risks voiding the warranty.
2) You can pay a laptop expert to open up the laptop. That risks voiding the warranty and I think you'll also be wasting your money.
3) You can return the laptop under warranty and get it fixed or replaced free of charge.

RE: laptop lcd screen replacement

I agree, I don't think its a connection problem. You have colour all over your screen. If it was a cable problem, you would have half the screen totally dark.

You could fix it yourself if you want to avoid going back to the supplier, you just need to buy a new LCD ( probably about £85) and fit it. Or get them to do it for free!

Regarding my earlier comment, you do have colour on all the screen, admittedly some of it is white, but if the connection was faulty, the faulty part would be black, and unlit.

Regarding any potential suppliers, the company that you mention is based in USA. We are all UK based, and so would not have any experience of US companies.

If samygold g. is indulging in 'linkfarming' then he/she has taken a huge amount of time to get around to it!!! But I agree something is not right here because of the amazing lengths he/she seems prepared to go NOT to have the machine repaired under warranty.

Samygold, I think you might be better off getting a specialist laptop repairer to fix the machine. They may well have better access to parts, may well be able to get them cheaper and will certainly know which suppliers are reputable. The labour involved in substituting your old display for a new one should not be that great.

Asus is an Asian company and has representation just about everywhere. You should be able to find a service centre for them in your country

You say you're in Asia - which makes your suggestion to but a replacement screen from the USA look even stranger. These all come from Taiwan or China and you would be able to pick one up far cheaper closer to wherever you are.
