my sereal number on the bottom of my computer is smeared how do i find my sereal number on my computer

if you have a machine from a large scale manufacturer like Dell or HP you can't as they are all loaded with the same default key - which you can't use to activate a machine

If the machine was made by a small-scale builder then you can get at the key. There are several tools to do it, the most common is the Magical Jelly Bean at
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

A word of warning: because of the way in which the key is held in registry as an encoded hash value, sometimes the key recovery tools actually retrieve an invalid key as the same hash can be created by multiple keys. If the wrong one IS found, then it wont work

You want to find the product serial number for your laptop or the product key to install the windows again.
