RE: problems closing my internet explorer

Try (All) Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Then type something neutral like www.google.co.uk in the address bar and press enter. If you can go to the Google web site, search as normal and close Internet Explorer without error then your problem is with an add-on.

RE: problems closing my internet explorer

John,a problem in the registry of the system can cause this problem also.

Which version of internet explorer you are using at the moment.

You can check this, when you open the internet explorer by pressing Alt plus h keys all together from your keyboard and after releasing them press A key only.

Then you can find out which version you are using.

RE: problems closing my internet explorer

OK I'm going to disagree with Seth here and agree with Alan. This is caused either by incorrectly installed or faulty 3rd party plugins, or else by a file hijack/corruption such as shdocvw.dll being corrupted
You need to try and reset Internet Explorer to its base setiings. Microsoft hve two support pages dedicated to this

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213

have a readof these and follow the instructions
One word of warning - if you follow these ALL plugins will be disabled, including security and antivirus software, so you will have to re-enable these later from within the Internet settings control paner
