Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

On clicking a link while on the web I keep getting this message - "Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception"..........And it then either hangs or closes down.

RE: Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

Internet Explorer by itself is pretty darn reliable but then it gets loaded up with a plethora of add-ons, many of which you don't need and some of which may be malign. Try: All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Internet Explorer (No add ons). Click the House icon to load your home page and see if the problem remains. If not, start Internet Explorer normally and disable all your add-ons. If you like, you can then re-enable them one at a time until the problem comes back and you know which add-on is responsible. Delete that one.

RE: Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

Agreed, add-ons can clash, especially the toolbars. I refer to it as "Clash of the Toolbars" :-)

RE: Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

Thank you Alan B. but I obviously haven't the same version of MS as you. I do not have "Internet Explorer (No add ons)" in the Systems Tools - so cannot click on the House icon.
The problem has got worse as it hangs every time I try to open a web address in emails now as well as the web.
I am a novice user so do not know how to disable "add-ons"
Can you help on that too please?

RE: Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

Ah! Wim W. might have the solution as a new tool bar has added its self on very recently.
How do I get rid of that please?

RE: Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

Control Panel - (Network ...) - Internet Options

OR open Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options

A new window will open. Click the Programs tab and then Manage Add-ons. You'll need to select each add-on in turn then click Disable to disable it.

RE: Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception

Many many thanks to all you Guys - I have had a whale of a time ridding my system of unwanted toolbars, add-ons and too many programs at start-up.
I didn't have the confidence to "fiddle" before but when you get mad enough with the PC you will resort to anything.
Result- No more error messages or hangings and a fast start up and connections again.
I am truly delighted with the PC now and extremely grateful for all your words of wisdom.
