Slow computer

Just wondered if there was any way of speeding up my Advent 6522 laptop. Have tried defragging & cleaning out unwanted files etc. but still seems very slow.

RE: Slow computer

You need to look very carefully at the programs that start automatically when Windows starts. But knowing what is necessary and what is not requires some expertise.

RE: Slow computer

Im running windows vista & have 1G of ram(I think)
Laptop is 3 years old but only has a few photos & albums on it.
Keeps telling me high disc usage when on the net.
Trying to load Adobe 11 at the moment which keeps telling me
I have "finished" but then won't run & doesn't appear on my desk top?

RE: Slow computer

1GN RAM is not enough to run Vista
You need at least 2GB

the "high disk use" warning makes me think you probably have one of the Norton Security programs installed. That will make things worse: with Norton on Vista you need a min of 3GB RAM

RE: Slow computer

I don't think that the 6522 will take more than 1Gb RAM. The supplied amount is a single 512MB SODIMM and one free slot. Also it takes PC133 and so will be fairly expensive if you can even get a 2GB chip.

RE: Slow computer

In which case Vista is the wrong operating system fro that computer. It would be better off with WinXp
