laptop keyboard drivers

i recently installed win 7 on a laptop that had win xp ( it originally had vista on it ) but it is configured for s normal ps2 keyboard
how do i get it to recognize the laptop keyboard?are there any generic drivers i can download, it is fully activated , all updates are downloaded, it works fine except the keyboard
it is an ESPRIMO Mobile V5535
I used the Microsoft files and setting transfer sowtware to copy the xp retting and files to an external hard drive but am wary of transfering it back incase i reintroduce any maleware that was in the files to begin with there were things that i could not remove in the system 32 files

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

Keyboard drivers are built-in to Windows. If you happen to have an unusual computer that requires its own keyboard driver, how did you ever succeed in installing XP on it?

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

windows xp and vista recognize that it is a laptop keyboard but win 7 only sees it as a standard ps/2 keyboard , as to the installing part i used a usb keyboard to type in the key and then unplugged the the keyboard whilst it loaded setup files and the rest of the installation, i used the settings and files wizard to transfer the files and settings back on to the laptop but it still only saw the keyboard as standard which rendered the keyboard useless, is there a setting in control panel that i can tell the computer that it is a laptop keyboard and not a standard ps/2 keyboard?

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

Look in Device Manager. It is NORMAL for a laptop keyboard to be listed there as a "Standard PS/2 Keyboard". Therefore if the keyboard has stopped working it is more likely to be a hardware problem than a software (drivers) problem.

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

There is a "Change Keyboards" option in Control Panel / Clock, Language and Region / Region and Language / Change keyboards or other input methods.

You could check in there that the correct region and language has been applied during the installation.

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

That's a good point Robin but the impression I get from Garry (he never says this explicitly) is that his keyboard does not work at all.

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

i am sorry alan , the keyboard on the laptop does work after a fashion but from the letter n, m comes up as 0 and the rest of that line come up as differrent characters other than what is on the keys H comes up as a symbol and so do the keys from that point, and so from t onwards and thank you robin i will most certainly look at the change keyboards option the region and language have all been set to uk summer time , i have now installed vista and the keyboard configuration is now recognized, as far as i have been able to research fujitsu does not offer support for win 7 on the esprimo v5535 so i do not suppose it has the drivers for that model and loads the closest it has, but thank you both for your time and i hope others have hope even if it is plugging in a usb keyboard for typing,

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

Garry, this really is NOT an issue with keyboard drivers. If you were able to load XP in the past you presumably have an XP installation disc. Boot the computer from that, go to a DOS/CMD window and type some characters. If your keyboard works properly then I'll eat my hat.

RE: laptop keyboard drivers

" m comes up as 0"
in other words, the number lock key was "on".
Nothing wrong with the machine at all. Perfectly normal behaviour.

Laser printers need even more preventive maintenance than other types of printers. Usually a laser printer prints more pages a minute and has more moving components. The maintenance process involves far more detailed inspection of ozone filters, static remover teeth and fuser units.
