RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

Try disabling Automatic Restart on failure. When the PC is starting up, after the BIOS screen, press F8 before Windows starts, you should get a menu, one of the options near the bottom of the list is "Disable automatic restart". That will let you see the Error Message. Post that back here and someone may be able to help better. It is possibly a corrupt Registry, or a driver not loading correctly.

For parts, we need to know exactly which model of Pavilion, parts may not be available for some older models.

This doesn't really help with the question, but Death (a.k.a. The Grim Reaper) is generally acknowledged to be the custodian of the Blue Screen.

RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

Problems with the hard drive and corrupted files are the most common cause of Windows failing to start. If you have, or can borrow, a Windows XP installation disk then use it to boot your computer, load the Recovery Console then run chkdsk as the error message suggests.

RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

If running chkdsk does not work then EITHER some files Windows needs to start are missing or corrupt OR the problem is down to some other hardware or software fault. If it is a Hard Drive problem, as I suspect, then you probably need to replace your Hard Drive with a new one. A new Hard Drive would cost in the region of 40 pounds. Installing it and getting Windows running again would proably take between one and three hours, depending on whether or not you want to try salvage data from the old Hard Drive. You may find it difficult or uneconomic to get a replacement for your casing.

If you want to call out a PCIQ Professional then go to the PCIQ Home Page and click on the link that says "Get Support" or the big button that says "Find out more". If you wish, you can ask for a quote before accepting any offer of help.

RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

1) is osezua i. and sez d. the same person under two names? Or are there two issues here?

2) details of the "Stop 0x0000007B" error are at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314082
However in reality you'll probably find the hard drive is on the way out, as Alan suggests

RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

Firstly, if you have a hard drive that is faulty and you did not replace it then any "fix" is likely to fail again pretty soon.

SM stands for System Management and the bus contrller will be somewhere on your motherboard, so make sure you downloaded and installed the motherboard drivers for your computer. They should be available on the HP web site.

RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

HP don't make all drvers easy to find. I had a dead HP computer last week and their initial answer was to use their Recovery feature. But the hard drive is dead and I have replaced it, I said. Then use the Recovery disks created when the PC was first bought by the customer, was the answer.

The customer didn't realise they had to do that at that time - so where can I now get the drivers?

3 days before they sent me links for audio and video drivers - but not the motherboard. They do not make you life easy when you have a problem!

Your only real solution though is to pester them for the answer.

RE: devils blue screen.windows professional xp not starting like it should.keeps going back to the start

The SMB error means its an Intel Chipset and needs Intel chipset drivers installing. Go to the Intel website and download them, or else load them off the driver CD that would have come with the machine.

As for HP "not making life easy" - they have one of the best websites for finding drivers. Plug the model of the machine into the search engine,a dn the whole collection for that system appaears
