I know this is an old post, but in case not resolved: try starting up with the shift key held down if you are running OS X 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard. It sounds to me like you are sometimes putting in your login wrongly, and that there is something stopping the desktop from fully loading. Starting in safe mode with the shift key may help get you further.
Hi. There are so many ways to do this. Does either the cable modem downstairs or your husband's computer provide a wireless signal? Do you have an airport card in the G4? Does the PC in your office connect to the internet; if so how?...
