Engineer responded very rapidly to posted request for help and visited house in early evening.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to identify or resolve the problem and his view on the possible cause kept changing. Spent very long time running virus and spyware checkers (a system for both was already installed and running continually on the affected computer). No infections were identified by the engineer and he commented on how unusual this was in his experience. Then he suggested fault was due to overheating, but could not explain how this could be the cause when told the computer locked up on start-up from cold. Appeared to be keen to get home and made reference to needing to be away on several occasions.
The engineer offered to take computer away and re-install everything (at additional cost) but could not do this for several days.
He left me unconvinced that he knew what the problem was or was capable of resolving it.
Disappointing outcome as I'd heard very positive things about PCIQ and their engineers' abilities.
